Tech Tip #73 - Create Cross Sections & Excel Spreadsheet
- Details
An InRoads user asked for Mark's recommendations on performing this task:
Hi Mark,
I have a 5 mile long corridor in which I need to cut approximately 60 cross sections at stations that will be provided to me in a spreadsheet format. How would you recommend I do this?
Thanks...

Here is the Zen Dude's response:
Howdy!
I'm having a case of déjà vu.
What exactly is the format of the file you have been provided?
The quick and dirty answer is that Event Points is a good option.
. . . Open the spreadsheet and save it as a CSV, comma delimited file.
Set your horizontal alignment 'active'.
Then use the InRoads > File > Text Import Wizard to import the file with the Event Points.
After the Event Points are imported, and you are creating the cross sections, go to the Controls > Critical Sections leaf and toggle the Horizontal Event Points on, and any others that you need.
Enjoy!!
Civilly yours,
