Hello Everyone! I hope this isn't too disappointing, but unanticipated circumstances beyond our control have prevented us from issuing Part 2 of Footsteps #21; however we want to keep the tips coming so here is a tip on End Conditions and Priorities that we thought we'd share.

A former student of Mark's asked for his help when he was working through something he learned in the training class:

Mark,

I am working on making templates/model more intelligent by using what you taught me earlier this month in the Advanced Inroads Class.

At this particular station, priority #3 is being modeled, however I would like priority #5 to model.

Inside Roadway Designer, priority #3 (cut ditch) is shown, how do I go about changing priorities so that priority #5 is modeled?

When I double click and go into editing template at sta 350+00 only, I am able to 'delete' cut ditch and add priority #5, however end section does not terminate at OG. But when I test template, end condition terminates at OG.

Also, the 'check priorities' is not active. . .

Am I missing something? Your help will be appreciated!

Joe

Here is the Zen Dude's response:

Hi Joe,

I'm out of the office this week teaching a class in Savannah,  Georgia.

Regarding your issue, here are my initial thoughts:

1) Have you tried to use an End Condition Override and just have it apply that wall section for the given station range?

2) It sure looks like that outside top of wall should intersect with the existing ground. It looks pretty close but that existing ground sure looks lower than that outer top of wall point. So it doesn't make sense that it won't intercept.

3) When you double-click on a Template to edit it you have limited ability to edit the template and can't edit the Priorities. But you should be able to drop that wall section onto that section and it should work for that station, but not any other stations.

4) You can also drop another template in the "Template Drops" and then highlight that entry and edit it. Then you would be able to change the Priorities for a stretch of the model.

I'll be back in town next week and could help you out a bit more if you need it. Let me know if any of this helps.

Civilly yours,

-mark
